LABOUR PARTY WEEKLY CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the weekly card tournament held by the Labour Party the prizes were won as folows: —Ladies: Mrs R. Banks, 1, and Mesdames C. Holland and Amundsen, equal, 2. Men: Mr J. Lenihan, 1; Mr D. Wadsworth, 2. Carterton’s New Street. Messrs Seaton. Sladden and Pavitt have been busy during the past two days surveying a section of the Carterton borough for the purpose of the new street which is to be put through to connect Belvedere Street with Broadway. The new fire station is to be erected in this street. Personal Items. Word was received in Carterton yesterday that Mr Max Rogers, son-in-law, of Mr J. McCann, had died in the Wanganui Hospital as a result of an injury sustained in an accident on Sunday. He leaves a widow and two young children. Mr Plummer, organising secretary for Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., was in Carterton on Tuesday in connection with general election matters. Welcome to Returned Soldiers. On Monday evening at the State Theatre, Carterton, a welcome home will be extended to the Carterton and district members of the armed forces who recently returned from overseas. The Citizens’ Committee have the arrangements in hand and the residents of the Carterton district are sure io give the soldiers an enthusiastic reception. Dancing will commence at 8 p.m. and Ashton's orchestra will provide the music. REGENT THEATRE “PARIS CALLING.” The thrilling drama, "Paris Calling.” in which thc chief characters are portrayed by Elizabeth Bergner, Basil Rathbone and Randolph Scott, will be finally shown tonight.
