PIRINOA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. The Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the Memorial Hall. Mrs Atkinson presided over a fair attendance of members. Several letters were read from service men overseas acknowledging receipt of parcels, and thanking the Institute for the same. The greater part of the afternoon was spent in preparing and spinning wool for making comforts for service men. Two competitions were held and were both won by Mrs Lovegrove. The hostesses were Mesdames Macdonald and Tilson. A Valuable Colt. The Coronach —Brown Pearl colt which Mr J. McDougall recently purchased for 500 guineas at the Trentham sales is now being handled here. The colt was the centre of attraction at Pirinoa on Friday. It is the intention cf Mr McDougall to have the colt prepared for his racing career at an Awapuni establishment . It may be of interest to sportsmen to know that the dam was originally owned by the late Mr Sam McDougall, a brother of the purchaser. Personal Items.
