GESTAPO HOAXED

BY NORWEGIAN PATRIOTS. SERIOUS SUSPICION THROWN ON STATUE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 18. An anonymous letter stopped in the post by the Norwegian censor sent Gestapo agents at Trondheim on a false chase. Addressed to ■ “PeterWessel, No. 5, Koengenstrasse, Trondheim,” the letter reproached him for his inactivity against the Germans and added: “We hope to see you on the day when action is planned.” Four carloads of Gestapo agents and Black Guards advanced from each end of the Koengenstrasse and converged on the square. Near No. 5 they found their man—Peter Wessel Todenskjold, the Norwegian naval hero (1691-1720). His statue stands in the square.
