WOOL MARKETING
POST-WAR POSITION. FINDINGS OF COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. After giving long consideration to the question of the post-war marketing of wool, and to the actions taken and proposed and reports submitted by Australian and South African producers' organisations, a committee set up by the Farmers’ Federation and composed of three representatives each from the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and the New Zealand Sheepowners’ - Federation, assisted by the Wool Council and by a member of the Farmers’ Union post-war marketing of wool committee, has made the following findings, which were adopted at the annual meeting of the Farmers’ Federation in Wellington yesterday:— That, in the event of a wool conference being called together by a Federal Minister, New Zealand should be represented by producers’ representatives at such conference. That we recommend to the Wool Council to turn down the South African invitation to attend a conference, in view of the fact that a conference is likely to be held in Australia, and in view of the travelling difficulties and the more central position of Australia. That this committee favours an endeavour being made to achieve a long-term stabilisation of wool prices, and suggests that the means to be adopted be by an international produce controlled pool on the lines of 8.A.W.R.A., such pool to act by purchase or sale on the open market as required. That in view of the constantly-changing economic conditions and the competition of synthetic fibres no attempt at arbitrary fixation of values be made. That there should be no discrimination in the price paid for wool for local manufacture as compared with wool supplied to other mills in the British Empire.
