Baby Bitten by Rat. Savagely attacked by a rat, the 10-months-old baby of Mr and Mrs E. V. Edwards, Oriental Parade, Wellington, had fingers on the left hand bitten almost to the bone, and also suffered lesser bites round the left eye. The rat’s teeth marks were clearly defined. The baby is being treated at the hospital daily. Mr Edwards was told by a hospital doctor that the child was lucky not to have lost the fingers of the left hand. At 316 Oriental Parade the four flats are occupied by 16 people, and Mr and Mrs Edwards and their five children, the eldest of whom is nearly eight, live in two rooms. Two of the children sleep in what has to be a general purpose room, and the rest of the family are crowded into the bedroom.
