FEATHERSTON

PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE DINNER FOR SERVICE MEN. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the local patriotic committee was held last night, Mr J. W. Card presiding over a good attendance of members. A telegram was read from the Prime Minister, offering financial assistance towards the entertainment of the local returned service men. It was decided to entertain the returned men at a dinner on Saturday night, which would be followed by a free entertainment to all in the Town Hall. Mr A. S. Kilsby was elected chairman of the Services Club, and Mr A. White secretary. The patriotic society entertained two car loads of visiting merchantmen at luncheon yesterday. The men thoroughly enjoyed the outing. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS TALK ON CARE OF BABIES. Mrs Arch. Clark presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the League of Mothers yesterday afternoon. It was decided that each member contribute threepence towards a parcel from the Featherston branch of the League of Mothers, to be sent every three months to a soldier serving overseas.

The speaker, Miss Woodhead, matron of Karitane Hospital, gave a very interesting talk on the care of the babies and training of the nurses at the hospital. Miss Woodhead explained the mothercraft advantages, illustrating her talk with charts showing the progress of the babies whose mothers had been fortunate in having had the mothercraft training. The hostesses were Mesdames McKenna, Nowell and Neilsen. Women’s Division Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs Ross presiding.
