IN TIME OF DANGER
HOME DEFENCE SERVICE GRATITUDE TO TERRITORIALS. EXPRESSED BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Now that the demobilisation of a further proportion of home defence units was in progress, the Prime Minister, Mr P. .Fraser, said today, he would like to take the opportunity of expressing publicly, on behalf of the Government and the War Cabinet, deep appreciation of the services of the Territorials during the period of the country’s danger. “I would like particularly,” Mr Fraser added, “to thank the older men, who in almost all cases were called upon to make real and heavy sacrifices in their own affairs, but who did not hesitate to put the country first.” The Prime Minister said the effort of the older men had greatly assisted towards the release of younger men for service overseas, and had enabled the military authorities to lay the foundation of a sound home defence system, which could be brought back into being should the occasion arise.
