NAVY LEAGUE
LADIES’ AUXILIARY MEETING. ACTIVITIES DURING PAST SIX MONTHS. A well-attended meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Navy League was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames O. A. Bunny PBorthwick, A. Caselberg, G. C. Williams, E. G. Norman, and the Misses Guild and B. Vallance. It was reported that flag presentations had been made at the Mauriceville West and Bideford Schools on July 1, the presentations being made |?y Captain W. H. Hartman, 0.8. E., of the Merchant Navy. . It was decided to send an application to the Rationing Controller for an extension of the permit to purchase seamen’s clothing, coupon free, for a further period of six months. Several letters of thanks were received from local men who had been supplied with woollen comforts. The wool committee reported, that 77 garments were ready for transport to Wellington. The purchasing committee reported having sent 17 garments to the Seamen’s Mission in June. It was reported that for the first six months of this year 887 garments had been received by the wool committee. One hundred and eighteen of these have been given to local men joining the Navy or Fleet Air Arm, and the remainder, 769, had been sent to Wellington for transport overseas. The purchasing committee had bought and forwarded to the Seamen’s Mission 111 garments. The committee wish to thank all those-who are giving such generous help to the Navy League war effort, by knitting wool into garments and by donations in money to purchase clothing other than knitted goods.
