LIBERTY LOAN QUOTA NOT REACHED. Carterton did not reach its quota in the Liberty Loan, but this must | be considered very satisfactory. The , < amount handled at the Post Office on . Saturday was £1456, and for the whole ' period £23,246. This included bonds ’ £6634, stock £7913. and national invest- ' meats £8699. The amount handled by the trading banks was £29.170, thus making a grand total of £52,416. This ■ amount would have been considerably ] increased but for the fact that amounts '■ of £4OOO, £2OOO and £lOOO were included in Masterton’s total. £4OOO also went to Wellington which really should have gone through Carter ton. WOMEN’S DIVISION MATARAWA-DALEFIELD MEETING. (.“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Hughes presided over the monthly meeting of the Matarawa-Dalefield Women’s Institute, held in the Matarawa School. There was a good attendance of members. Mrs M. E. Mellish was elected a member. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Seniors: Apple pie in saucer, Mrs Ross Gallon 1, Mrs G. Brazendale 2, Mrs L. Rogers-3; flowers, sand posy in saucer, Mrs A. Goodin 1, Mrs W. Knowles 2, Mrs G. Sadler 3. Juniors: Apple pie in saucer, Miss G. Conwell 1, Miss N. Conwell 2. Miss J. Conwell 3; flowers, sand posy in saucer, Miss B. Sadler 1, Miss J. Conwell 2. Miss G. Conwell 3. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames G. Brazendale. J. Crawford, R. Callister, Misses N. and J. Conwell. Personal Items. A very enjoyable time was spent reI cently at the Carter Home, the occasion i being the silver wedding of Mr and Mrs Yom N. King, master and matron of the Carter Homo. The best man at the wedding, Mr Fred Denbee, was present. Mrs King’s sister. Airs Nankcville, of Lower Hutt, who was bridesmaid .sent a telegram of congratulation. Her sister. Mrs Buick, of .Mt. Bruce, was in attendance. A cake iced by her cousin, Miss Eva Court, was cut. and the usual toasts were honoured. Among those present were Mr and Mrs | F. Court, uncle and aunt of the bride-, groom. Many congratulatory telegrams and letters were received by Mr and : Mrs King. Mr Hector A. Tankersley, M.8.E., who has been with the Y.M.C.A. headquarters, Middle East, has returned to i Carterton, where he will enjoy a wellearned holiday before going on duty I again. ; Old Time Football Photo. At Friday evening’s meeting of the I executive committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union, a photograph of a Wairarapa junior representative team of 1894 was presented to the Union by Mrs Miller, of Wrigley Street.
