«, PLUNKET SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the committee of the local Plunket Society was held recently Mrs Q. Donald presiding over a fair attendance Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. W. Matthews, G. Yule, Dean Burt, J. R. Matthews, H. R. Bloxarn, G. S. Sharp, H. C. Hunter E. M. Wakely J. A. Halpin J. G. Donald and Max Turner. A credit balance of £446 17s 7d was reported. The nurse’s report for the month of June was considered very satisfactory. The nurse reported that the new cases numbered 7; the visits to homes totalled 62 while there were 177 visitors to the Plunket rooms. The number of babies under supervision is 56 and pret-school children 80. COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING AT MARTINBOROUGH TODAY. The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough today. The chairman, Mr A. B. Martin, presided, and there were also present: Councillors R. Smith, L. J. Thompson, W. Cameron, J. C. Bidwill, J. A. McLeod, G. Gillies and R. W. Matthews. Leave of absence was granted Councillor Q. Donald. H. E. Johnstone was granted permission to use a heavy lorry on the Western Lake road. The council indicated it favoured the erection of a crematorium at Masterton. The ranger reported having im-, pounded 3 cows. He’ registered 152 dogs. Personal Items. Mrs and Miss Rutherford of Pahiatua are the guests of Mr and Mrs Frank White. Miss Joan Savage is spending her annual leave in Hamilton. Mr Rex Playle of Kahutara who was injured while playing football in Masterton last Saturday has entered the Greytown Hospital for treatment. Liberty Loan. The local postmaster Mr J. W. Holland reports that the total investments in the Liberty Loan in Featherston up to yesterday amounted to- £14,826. The banks handled £11,090 and the Post Office £3,736. Two further investof £6OOO and £7OOO, respectively, were made through Wellington agencies, thus bringing Featherston’s total up to £27,826. With only another day to go the public are requested to contribute substantially to the loan. COSY THEATRE TWO BIG FEATURES. “A Gentleman After Dark,” an exciting drama featuring Brian Donlevy and Miriam Hopkins, and “Under Fiesta Stars,” an excellent western drama in which Gene Autry and Smiley Burnette portray the chief roles, will be the big features at the Cosy Theatre tonight.
