O. LIBERTY LOAN FINAL APPEAL TODAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) _ A final appeal is being made in Carterton today in connection with the Liberty Loan. A start with the sale of bonds was made at 10 o’clock this morning in Krahagen’s building where the organiser, Mr G. S. George, and a large number of lady assistants were in attendance. An added attraction was the appearance of the American Army Band, which played a splendid programme of music at the corner of High Street and Broadway. The Post Office and banks will be opened for Liberty Loan investments between 7 o’clock and 9 o’clock tonight. A large number of people are in town and Carterton should reach its quota by tomorrow. Persona! Items. Mr E. Laurenson, of Christchurch, is a visitor to Carterton. The late Mrs S. Herrick, whoso death was recorded yesterday, was the third daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Jas. Martin, of Parkvale. Quite recently she spent a holiday with her sister in Carterton. She later left for Hamilton, where she was taken suddnly ill and died. Born at Parkvale, she was twice married, and for a long period had resided away from Carterton. A husband, three daughters and two sons are left to mourn their loss. The daughters are Mesdames W. Tinsley (North Auckland), S. Goss (Nireaha), D. Benge (Putaruru), and the sons Messrs Owen and Sidney Herrick (Martinborough). There are five grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and six sisters. Cake Competition. The winner of the cake competition in connection with the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union gathering on Wednesday night was Mrs Henry Peters, Pembroke Street, Carterton. Youth Injured. Terence Hercock, aged 18 years, of Waihakeke, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon with an injured arm which he received when he was thrown off a horse. Interesting Lecture. At the' Masonic Hall last night, Miss Waterston gave her third talk, showing the history of the British Navy, datingback 3000 years to the ships of Tarshish, explaining that the words Jack Tars originated from Jacob—Tarshish. The private life of Hitler was dealt with, showing his secret power to rule and control Germany. Great interest was shown in the pictures of the Russian Armies and the future movements of Germany and Russia as foretold in Scripture, especially when the lecturer spoke of a false peace, before the final intervention of God. This subject of the intervention of God will be further; gone into next Thursday, showing His complete plan, starting in this present generation to rule the earth from Jerusalem. Many other points of interest were given, which were much appreciated by the audience. REGENT THEATRE “BORN TO SING.” “Born to Sing,” an excellent musical comedy, featuring Virginia Weidler and Ray McDonald, and “Bad Men of Arizona,” a thrilling story of the wild west, starring Richard Dix, will head the programme at the Regent Theatre tonight.
