SHORTAGE OF POWER
THE REASON WHY. To the admonitions and warnings about extravagant and unnecessary use of electric power, the retort which comes readily to the . lips of the man-in-the-street or the woman-in-the-home is. ‘'Well, why don’t they make prevision to generate more power?'’ Those responsible for the supply of electricity could quite easily reply that you cant produce electricity for New Zealand from plant in England. War has kept that plant there —and we are without our additional output. In the meantime, however, demand has risen. More factories are producing war goods, more camps are relying on electricity fori light and power, and the householders’ demands are unabated. Industry's requirements ■ cannot be reduced at all, the camps but little. and consequently the householder must shoulder a large responsibility in the conservation of power. Every light-switch or hotpoint must be turned off immediately it is no longer required. —lssued by the Electricity Controller. Public. Works Department.
