NEW RATIONING
APPLIED TO KNITTING WOOL ATTEMPT TO SPREAD SUPPLIES AVAILABLE. TEA AND SUGAR RATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A special scheme for restricting individual purchases of knitting . wool was announced today by the Rationing Controller, Mr Thomas. The new arrangement, which has been approved by the War Cabinet, operates from today until the end of the current rationing period on October 31. During that period no more than 12 ounces of wool may be purchased by the holder of any ration book. During the period referred to, knitting Wool, other than baby wool, may be purchased on the surrender of one-quarter of a clothing coupon, together with one E coupon for each ounce. Only twelve E coupons, Nos. 1 to 12, are available for this purpose. Baby wool will continue to be purchased with special “expectant mother’s coupons. The new scheme also excludes wool in Service colours purchased on next of kin and armed services coupons. The Controller explained that supplies of wool coming on the market at the present time are being purchased largely by those who are able to shop when releases are made by retailers. Under the new scheme, a better opportunity would be given mothers and other necessitous cases of securing some part of their needs. There is no change in the amount of tea and sugar ration this month. The ration remains at 31bs. of sugar and 8 ozs. of tea monthly, until further notice.
