NAVAL BATTLE
IN PROGRESS NORTH OF NEW GEORGIA WASHINGTON ANNOUNCEMENT. NO DETAILS RECEIVED YET. LONDON, July 5. Washington announces that a brief report from the South Pacific states that a naval battle is in progress north of New Georgia Island. No details of the action have been received. it is announced tonight, a British Official Wireless message states, that at least eight Japanese midget submarines have been destroyed in the Solomons area. These craft are 76 feet long and are operated by two men.
