In 1942 over 100,000 tons of fish were caught in Siberian waters —double the amount caught in '1941 The .development of the fishing industry has changed the whole face of the northern territories “Soviet War News” states. Thousands of new workers have come to man it, and they intend to give the country at least 160,000 tons of fish in 1943. Last year the number of' canneries was doubled, and there were five times as many factories turning out concentrated fish products. The influx of new workers made heavy demands on the local building industry. A number of workers attached to the Commissariat for the Building Industry have just been decorated in recognition of their fine work in putting up new factories, re-establishing evacuated factories and building houses. The first man to be decorated was a concrete layer.
