ATTACK ON SIBERIA
CONTEMPLATED BY JAPAN ACCORDING TO CHINESE ARMY PAPER. TROOPS BEING RUSHED TO SIBERIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day 11.45 a.m.) CHUNGKING. July 2. “The Japanese are rushing troops to Manchuria and IF is as plain as day that the enemy is preparing to attack Siberia,’’ declared the Chinese Army newspaper, “Takung Pao.” Three Army commanders, it added, were’recently transferred from the Pacific to Siberia. The “Takung Pao” said the Chinese were unanimously rejoicing over the new American drive in the SouthWest Pacific and over Mr Churchill's declaration that Japan must submit or bite the dust. Japanese reinforcements succeeded in making contact with the besieged garrison of Owchihkow, despite Chinese resistance. Severe fighting rages on the outskirts of the town. A Chinese Army spokesman said the Japanese had lost 55,870 men in the Upper Yang.tse fighting, near Hangchow, about 170 miles south-west of Shanghai. He stated also that Chinese guerillas had captured Tama, about 20 miles northeast of Hangchow.
