The question was raised by Mr Sullivan (Opposition, Bay of Plenty) during discussion on the Estimates, when he asked whether members could now be informed of the election date. It was important that members in the outback districts should know this as soon as possible. The Minister of Finance. Mr Nash: “I am certain that the Prime Minister will inform the House at the earliest convenient opportunity.” The Leader of the Opposition: “When does ‘convenient’ mean?”
