VISIT TO MASTERTON
sir Bernard frevberg TUESDAY’S RECEPTION. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN. Arrangements have been completed for the visit to Masterton on Tuesday of Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., G.0.C., Second N.Z.E.F., Middle East. Sir Bernard Freyberg, who is due to arrive in Masterton by air at 10.30 a.m., will proceed by car to the Central School and from there to the Regent Theatre, where the civic reception will be held. The General is to be asked to walk along the lines of school children, both primary and secondary, drawn up on either side of Queen Street. The speakers at the reception, besides the guest of honour, will be the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, Mr J. Robertson, M.P., and Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, chairman of the Masterton County Council. A request is made that all people in the theatre should be seated before 11 a.m. Those on the stage, in addition to the speakers and the visitors, will be the mayors of Wairarapa boroughs, the chairmen of district county councils, the O.C. military forces, Masterton, the president of the Wairarapa R.S.A. and the two district members of Parliament. The lounge seats are to be reserved for those invited to the gathering. Queen and Jackson streets will be closed to vehicular traffit from 10.30 a.m. until after the reception. The Mayor invites shops and offices to close between 11 a.m. and noon. All ex-service men are asked to assemble in Jackson Street at 10.45 a.m. Ex-members of the Second N.Z.E.F. are particularly requested to be present.
