KEEN COMPETITION
FOR AHIKOUKA DAIRY HERD. ' PRICES AT CLEARING SALE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., report as follows on a most successful clearing sale held on behalf of Mr Geo. McKenzie at Ahikouka yesterday:—The dairy herd is well known in the district, and Mr McKenzie had the cows in excellent condition. There was very keen competition, and prices were the best so far recorded by us this season. The top price was £lB, and several made over £l4. The herd averaged (August and September calvers) the satisfactory figure of £ll 12s. Later cal vers averaged £7 ss. Twenty-four 2-year heifers made up to £ll, and averaged just over £B. The heifer calves made £3. The ewes running with S.D. rams made 24s 3d, and a few killers went for 21s 6d. The Jersey bulls made up to £ll ss. Implements, posts, sundries, etc., brought very good prices, and the following are the values some of the bigger implements brought:—Tractor, £170; drill, £35; distributor, £lB 10s; cart, £l4; Ford truck, £7O; plough, £27; mower, £l9; harrows, £l2; roller, £27; cultivator, £l4; hay rake, £2l; saw bench, £7 10s; shearing machine and engine, £18; wool press, £l4.
