THEFTS OF PETROL
FIVE MEN SENTENCED AT PAHIATUA.
DECISION RESERVED IN SIXTH CASE.

Six men employed on essential defence work in the Pahiatua district appeared before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court in Pahiatua this morning, charged with the theft of petrol from Army trucks, and with making false declarations to procure petrol. James W. H. Kreegher was fined £l5 and costs and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. J. C. Stewart, on similar charges, was fined £5O and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Other sentences were: S. A. Pullen, imprisonment for seven days and for one month >(periods concurrent*; C. A. Stewart, one month’s imprisonment with hard labour; W. R. Forster, seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour. In the case of K. G. Pullen, who entered a plea of not guilty, decision was reserved.
