Three Sets of Twins.

In a Palmerston North nursing home in the past fortnight three sets of twins have been born, all fine lusty babies ranging between six and seven pounds. It is not usual always for twins to show such good development. Rationing of Eggs.

Checking in the Food Controller s .office of requirements for the Wellington egg rationipg district is not yet complete, due to the lateness with which some returns were received, but a rough estimate places the applications in hand at about 10,000, spread over some 400 retailers, who also were obliged to effect registrations. Coupons for the special classes of civilian priority are being issued for three-egg lots, so that the preliminary estimate of rationing requirements is 30,000 eggs, but when the figures are’complete it is expected that priority claims will account for at least 40,0Q0 eggs weekly. For some weeks past releases of eggs for civilian consumption in the Wellington district have been on the basis of 121- nei’ cent of normal consumption. Combined Distributors, Ltd., the authority handling this business, advise that the supply has been increased to 20 per cent in addition (as before) to requirements for medical and Plunket purposes. The wholesale prices of eggs remain as before, namely: Heavy grade, 3s 3d a dozen; standard, 3s Id; medium, 2s lid; and pullets, 2s 6d.
