SCOUTS AND CUBS

BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) . The Scouts and Cubs held their Bth birthday party in the Odd Fellows Hall recently and a very enjoyable time was spent. Mr M. Priest (president) welcomed the County Commissioner. Mr Barton. Cubmaster Hubbard and several lady visitors.

Scoutmaster Trim and Cubmaster H. Smith were in charge of Scouts and Cubs.

Commissioner Barton said that the local troop was a very fine one and he was very proud of the members. Commissioner H. Higgonson presented David Golder with his warrant as assistant Scoutmaster.

Musical items were given as follows: Saxophone solo,. George Morris; pianoforte solo, R. Raleigh: violin solo, R. McAlister; recitation, J. Houlbrooke. Several amusing sketches and games were performed by the" Scouts and Cubs. A mock court, with R. McAlister as judge. A. Golder as crown prosecutor. E. Gray as clerk of the court, and P. Stewart and E. Curtis as policemen, caused a lot of amusement. The sum of 30s was collected in fines. A birthday cake made by Mrs R. Farrow and artistically iced by Mrs J. Payne was much admired. Commissioner H. Higginson lighted the 8 candles and the youngest Cub, Glen Bowering, blew them out. Cub Mistress Hubbard, of Masterton, cut the cake. Supper was served by the Scouts and Cubs with the help of the ladies’ Scout committee. Mrs Trim was the winner of a tasting competition. Soldiers’ Comforts Committee. The Borough ladies soldiers’ comforts committee held its monthly flag 500 in the Parish Hall. The winners of the games were: Ladies, Mesdames McAlister and Scott; men. Messrs D. Butcher and W. J. Manser. Mr L. C. Christie, who has been conducting the games for the committee for some time, and who will shortly leave for Patea, was asked by Miss A. Anderson to accept a number of books for himself and Mrs Christie. Mrs Christie is a member’ of the Borough ladies’ committee, in appreciation of their excellent work.
