Word has been received that Sgt. Guy Duckett, of Masterton, who was recently homo on furlough, has arrived safely at his destination overseas. Mr C. L. Mac Diarmid has retired from the position of chairman of the Hamilton High School board of governors after holding office for 22 years. Mr J. W. Andrews, formerly of Masterton, has been appointed representative for the Manufacturers’ Association on the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee.

Dr. W. E. Adams, of the University of Leeds, England, who graduated from the Otago Medical School in 1935, has been appointed professor of anatomy at the University of Otago in succession to Dr. W. P. Gowland, who recently announced his retirement. The Auckland division of the National Party has announced that Miss Ellen Melville has agreed to submit her name to the ballot for selection as the party’s candidate for Grey Lynn, the seat at present held by Mr J. A. Lee. So far no other names have been submitted. The nominations for the party candidate close on July 1. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, has announced the arrival of Commodore W. M. D. Dowding, D.S.C., R.N., in New Zealand to relieve Commodore E. Rotherham, R.N., as naval officer in charge of the Auckland district. Commodore Rotherham, having completed his term of office with the R.N.Z.N., will return to the United Kingdom.

Sergeant-Observer-Navigator Henry George Corin, whose parents, Mr and Mrs G. Corin, reside at Te Kuiti, is reported missing. Sergeant Corin attended school at Pongaroa, and lived there for some 13 or 14 years. He played football on several occasions for the Bush and Puketoi senior representative teams. He is a brother of Mrs T. Glassey, Pahiatua.
