Window Dresser’s Mistake. The best of window dressers can make mistakes. This is shown in a first-class window display in Wellington of air equipment. One exhibit is the figure of an airman in full flying kit. The dummy on which the kit has been fitted has deep red fingernails!

Sympathy with Mr Scrimgeour. At a meeting of dairy factory workers in Palmerston North, a resolution of sympathy was passed with the former Controller of Commercial Broadcasting, Mr Scrimgeour, and the Minister responsible for the dismissal was urged to take steps to effect his reinstatement.

Woman Injured.

Mrs E. Ryan, of Tory Street, Wellington, was taken from her home to the Wellington Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday suffering from a lacerated wound to her scalp. It was stated that the injury was the result of an assault.

Indoor Basketball Draw.

The Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s indoor basketball competition will be continued in the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium, Masterton, on Monday night. Illegal Lottery. Unaware that permission was required from the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mrs Elizabeth McGowan organised a raffle for a Christmas hamper for a working men’s club. Yesterday she was fined £2, with 10s costs, in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, on a charge of commencing a lottery by which prizes were drawn for by mode of chance. Arising out of the same set of circumstances, Universal Printing Products, Ltd., were fined the minimum penalty, £5, with 10s costs, for printing tickets without placing their name thereon, as required by the Statute.

Mayor and Chief Justice. The following notice of motion, to be placed before the Wellington City Council at its next meeting, was lodged with the town clerk yesterday afternoon:—“That we, the members of the Wellington City Council, entirely dissociate ourselves from the action of his Worship the Mayor in refusing the request of his Honour the Chief Justice and Lady Myers for an invitation to attend the reception tendered to Lieu-tenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday, the 22nd instant, and express to the Chief Justice our deep regret at the action of the mayor.” The signatories are: Councillors Martin Luckie, R. L v Macalister, Malcolm Fraser, R. H.' Nimmo, E. M. Gilmer, and W. Duncan.

Gipsy Tap Competition. At the Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s dance, held in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night considerable interest was taken in the gipsy tap old time dance competition. The judge, Miss B. Hirst, awarded first prize to Miss Clark and Mr Cililich. Splendid music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra and the Thorne quartet played appreciated extras. Messrs J. Bruce and L. A. Askew were efficient M’s.C. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mrs Poppell and Mr Coulson. Supper was served by Woolworths indoor basketball team. Next week a veleta old time dance competition will be held. In view of the popularity of the veleta, good entries are anticipated.
