COMMAND IN ITALY
REPORTED DIFFERENCE OF OPINION MARSHAL VON BOCK’S DEMAND. REJECTED BY ITALIANS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, June 24. The Morocco radio says it is reported from Berne that Field Marshal von Bock, one of the German commanders on the Russian front, was offered the command of the German forces in Italy a few days ago. Field Marshl von Bock asked to be given command of special Axis forces in Italy, including the Italian forces under General Rossi, but the Italian High Command refused to put their troops under German command. The German radio Quoted reports that the Italians have evacuated Castello Rosso, the easternmost island of the Dodecanese group.
