SUBJECTED TO HEAVY AIR ATTACK MUCH DAMAGE IN SARDINIAN PORT. AIRFIELDS & RAILWAYS BLASTED IN SICILY. LONDON, June 24. The Mediterranean air forces diverted their attacks from the Italian mainland to the islands on Tuesday night. One objective teas a port in
north-east Sardinia, supplying the island’s garrison. Wellingtons did the job, without much opposition and badly damaged a seaplane base and the port.
R.A.F. heavy bombers from the Middle East attacked targets in southeast Sicily, tearing up runways and damaging hangars. Malta fighter-bombers were over Sicily again yesterday, attacking railways in the south of the island. ENEMY TANKER SUNK. At sea, Beaufighters sank an enemy tanker in a daylight attack. RADIO STATION ATTACKED BY BRITISH SUBMARINE. AXIS SUPPLY SHIPS SUNK. . LONDON, June 27. A British submarine in tthe Mediterranean made a daring attack on a radio location station on an island north of Sicily. It scored repeated hits. Other submarines have sent more valuable Axis supply ships to the bottom of the Mediterranean. These include a 3,000 ton armed merchant cruisqr, two naval auxiliaries and ten supply ships. One submarine attacked . a patrol of two Italian destroyers and hit one —an 800 ton ship—with a torpedo. It is not known whether she was sunk.
