Mr and Mrs R. Kenny, Raglan Street, Lansdowne, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Agnes Dulcie, to Trooper Desmond, younger son of Mr and Mrs C. McGrannachan, Patutahi, Gisborne. Mrs L. N. B. Boyle has decided to contest the Pahiatua seat as an Independent; candidate at the general election. Mrs Boyle, who has taught in the Woodville, Norsewood, Ormondville, Porangahau and Dannevirke schools, is at present an employee of the Ministry of Supply. The death occurred yesterday! in his eighty-second year, of Dr James Fitzgerald, who for many years was one of the best-known medical men in Dunedin, says a Press Association telegram from Dunedin. At the time of his death he was the oldest practising physician in the Dominion. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic Rugby footballer and played for Otago University in the first match against Canterbury College. He gave service for many years as a member of Otago University Council. Three of his sons are in the medical profession.
