HOSPITAL COSTS

INCREASED PAYMENTS FROM SOCIAL SECURITY FUND. • ANNOUNCEMENT BY HEALTH MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that regulations would be issued this week, giving effect to the Budget undertaking that the payment from the Social Security Fund to hospitals in respect of inpatients would be increased from 6s to 9s a day was made by the Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, today. Mr Nordmeyer said the increases would operate from April 1, this year and hospital boards should amend their demands on local authorities so that the reductions might be passed on to the ratepayers.

Regarding private hospital patients, the Minister said an increased amount would be deducted from their accounts, beginning from the first of next month, but patients who had been discharged from such institutions between April 1 and June 30 could apply to the medical officer of health for their district for the additional amount of 3s daily to which they are now entitled.
