HAVOC IN NAPLES
CAUSED BY REPEATED ATTACKS
RAILWAY YARDS HEAVILY BOMBED.
HITS ON MILITARY BUILDINGS LONDON. Juno 22. Naples has had two severe bufferings in 24 hours. R.A.F. Welliwgtons opened the attack on Sunday night, when a heavy cargo of bombs was dropped on the railway marshalling yards. Yesterday, about tOO Flying Fortresses attacked industrial areas in the Italian city.
At least 25 fires were going full blast and many others were just starting when ■ the raiders left. The arsenal and torpedo factory were among the buildings hit. Ten miles inland other Fortresses bombed an oil storage depot. Three enemy fighters were shot down and seven others were damaged. One Fortress is missing. R.A.F. heavy bombers from the Middle East attacked the mainland terminals of the train ferry service connecting Italy and Sicily. Yesterday American Liberator bombers also attacked the same targets. They swept aside fighter opposition and shot down at least 20 fighters—half of the attacking force —without loss to themselves. Raiders from Malta were also out over Sicily and Southern Italy.
