GREYTOWN
FIRE BRIGADE DANCE SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Despite the heavy rain there was a large crowd at the Greytown Fire Brigade dance in the Town Hall, the gathering being very successful. Visiting firemen were present from the Lower Valley brigades. The hall was decorated in red and blue and Are fighting equipment was used in the stage setting. The Pirinoa Orchestra supplied the music and Daysh’s band played the extras.
On behalf of the brigade the Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, made presentations to Firemen R. Allen and W. Everett, who are now in the forces. Superintendent J. Wood expressed the appreciation of the brigade for the large attendance despite the weather, and thanked all who had so generously assisted the gathering.
EUCHRE PARTY PAPAWAI TRIBAL COMMITTEE. There was a good attendance at the Papawai Tribal Committee’s euchre parly. The winners ' were:—Ladies: Mrs K. Parata, 1; Mrs W. McHardy, 2. Men: C. .Matthews, 1; W. Flood, 2. The consolation prize was won by S. Jaro. Mrs P. Piware supplied the music for the dancing, and Mr T. Karaitiana acred as M.C. Personal. Mr J. C. Marchbanks, of Wellington, arrived in Greytown yesterday to act as relieving manager of the Bank of New Zealand. .Mr F. Dewhirst will leave for Petone on Friday, Social Gathering and Dance. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee will hold a social gathering and dance on Wednesday evening in the Town Hall, at which a number of soldiers will be guests of honour. TOWN HALL “TO THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI.” At the Town Hall tonight there will be presented the brilliant drama of the U.S. Marines, “To the Shores of Tripoli.” It is a gloriously coloured picture with .John Payne, Maureen O’Hara, Nancy Kelly and Randolph Scott in the chief roles.
