OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

PRODUCTION COUNCIL

(To the Editor) Sir—l would appreciate the opportunity of drawing the attention of your readers and the farming community in particular to the valuable services being rendered by the Wairarapa Primary Production Council. Those who are unfamiliar with the functions of this council would never realise the wide field of its activities or the great, assistance rendered to manv primary producers, business people and the public in general and for the most part free of cost to the individual recipients. The council has done much in the following ways: (1) The location and allocation of suitable farm labour, including shepherds, shearers, harvesters, cooks, etc. (2) Assisting in the campaign to grow more wheat, potatoes and other most necessary commodities in the prosecution of the war, including the location of the necessary farm machinery and other facilities required to do the , -x. i (3) Advising and assisting where necessary for petrol and tires to be made available for strictly essential industry. (4) Attending appeals for men in key positions and essential industry and many other similar functions of vital importance to the community as a whole.

In particular I would draw attention to the untiring efforts of Mr R. W. Kebbell, chairman, who is doing a magnificent job as a war effort and without remuneration.

The council’s recent balance sheet discloses some interesting facts. It is evident that it is working under difficulties, without adequate funds. It would be a very nice gesture if all those who appreciate council s good work or have in any way benefited by its assistance would render every possible assistance in return by making a monetary donation to the council to help liquidate its commitments:, and to help meet the coming year's expenses. —I am, etc., GRATEFUL RECIPIENT. Masterton, June 19.
