MASTERTON SEAT
LABOUR CANDIDATE SPEAKS AT MANGAMAIRE.
OPENING OF ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
A political address was given at Mangamaire last night by Mr J. Robertson, M.P., Labour candidate for the Masterton seat. Mr Robertson said he had riot been addressing political meetings during the war period, but owing to the failure to function of the war administration set up, an election had become unavoid able. Mr Robertson briefly sketched the developments and "changes that had taken place since the last election. He pointed out how the principles of Social Security, which was a controversial issue at the last election, had now been accepted and implemented by all the principal Allied nations of the world. Mr Robertson gave details of the rehabilitation of soldiers, returned from this war, already carried out, and sketched plans, not yet fully in operation, for the purchase of land. Certain large areas had been purchased already, and others were under consideration.
A number of questions vzere asked, and Mr Robertson was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation.
