Farmer Found Dead.

Mr Jeremiah O’Sullivan, aged 59, married, a well-known farmer of Manawaru, Te Aroha, was found dead at his home on Friday afternoon. At an inquest a verdict was returned that death resulted from poisoning. Masterton Dog’s Success.

Mr H. Stimpson, of Masterton, took his young Pointer dog, Stamford Stalwart, to the Ashburton Show on Saturday. The dog won the grand puppy stakes and was judged the best puppy in the show for any breed. The dog was bred by Mr S. D. Geary. Elderly Man Drowned.

Mr Walter Hadley, an elderly man residing at 82 Evans Bay Road, was drowned on Saturday afternoon when his dinghy capsized about 100 yards from shore in Balena Bay. Dragging operations were carried out by the wharf police yesterday, but the body had not been recovered last night. Harrier Activities.

Seven harriers took part in a training run from the Masterton Park on Saturday. The course was heavy and four miles were covered at a steady pace. A run in was held over the last mile. Brickworks Employee Suffocated. Francis Leonard Eden, single, 40 years of age, residing at Owen Street, Wellington, was killed at the Miramar brickworks on Saturday afternoon. Education of the Maori.

The new policy adopted in Maori education was outlined by Mr J. McMurtie, chief inspector of native schools, in an address to the Y.M.C.A. Optimists’ Club, at Wellington. The attitude of the young Maori party, which had clone a great deal toward implementing this policy, he said, was very real in present-day native schools policy, where all teaching was practical rather than academic. Whereas seventy years ago, comparatively a handful of Maori children attended native schools, today nearly half of the Maori school children throughout the country attended native schools, the others attending pakeha schools. Magnetic Truck’s Haul.

Though because of the weather its operations were restricted, the Main Highways Board's magnetic truck picked up nearly, 7cwt of nails and pieces of iron last week from Wellington streets. Complaints by motorists of damage to tires, particularly through their picking up nails, had been numerous, so the truck was hired by the city council to do a little cleaning up. Thousands of Crown tops are among the miscellaneous collection which has now been deposited in the Corporation yard. The assortment of iron includes some odd-looking pieces, and pounds and pounds of nails which, while lying on the streets were sabotaging the war effort by their damage to tires.
