REPORTED PROTEST
BY THE SOVIET UNION AGAINST JAJANESE CAPTURE OF SHIPS. RELATIONS SAID TO BE STRAINED. /By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, June 19. The Soviet Union has protested to Japan against the capture by a Japanese North Pacific naval patrol of a number of merchantmen which were flying the Russian flag and were en route to Siberian ports from America, according to an article in the Washington “Evening Star.” As a result of the incident, the newspaper says, relations between Tokio and Moscow are strained. The Associated Press says that Washington officials refused confirmation of the report, but they said it was known that Germany was pressing Japan to halt the flow of lease-lend supplies to Russia.
