SALE AT ADDINGTON VALUES FIRMER. FAT CATTLE BRING GOOD PRICES. (By Telesrnnh-—-Pre-s Association i CHRISCHURCH, Juno 16. Firmng markets in all departments ruleat Addington today.' An unusually large fa l cattle entry sold well, and fat sheep, which were in small supply, met a spirited demand. Store sheep prices rose considerably antmany buyers were left unsupplied. Lambs rose Is to Is 6d a head, top price being 7d. There was keen competition for ewes, hill country sheep in. lamb to Romney ranv making 27s 3d. Wethers made 25s 6d to 28s Last week’s mproved rates for fat sheep were maintained. Best beef showed a definite appreciation. Good quality was also firmer, but prices dropped at the end of the- sale. Values steadied as the sale progressed, the average maintaining last week’s rates. Porkers were all cleared at full schedule rates. The larger chopper entry was sold at last week’s good prices, and baconers also sold firm at recent rates.
MASTERTON SALE CATTLE IN FIRM DEMAND. ' PRICES ABOVE EXPECTATIONS. Th Associated Auctioneers report as follows on their Masterton sale yesterday :—A. fair-sized yarding of sheep came forward, and also several pens of cattle. Several lines of first-class hoggets were offered, and these met with animated competition. Buyers from outside districts were operating, and were free bidders for hoggets and cattle. ?x few in-lamb ewes were offered, and also empty ewes, but the enquiry was limited. The fats were of only medium quality. Cattle were in very firm demand and made prices well above expectations. The following are the- prices:—Good woolly wether heggets, 15s Gd to 17s 3d; medium sorts, 12s to 15s; culls, 7s Gd to 10s; good shorn wether hoggets, 12s to 14s 7d: medium shorn hoggets. 8s to Ils; b.f. hoggets. 12s to 13s 8d ; small do., 3s to Ils 6d; woolly ewe hoggets, 14s lOd to 16s- 3d; shorn ewe hoggets. 8s to 9s Gd; ewes, r.w. S.D. rams (failing mouth). 8s to 10s; empty store ewes, 4s Gd to 7s; fat, wethers, 25s 6d to 275; fat ewes, 15s to 17s nd; Down ewes, 16s; fat hoggets. 24s to 26s (light softs), 20s to 21s Gd. Cattle.—P.A. cows, r.w. bull, £5 8s to £5 Ils; 18-month steers, £5 15s: weaner P.A. steers. £4 9s; fat cows, £6 15s to £3 ss; fat heifers, £7 15s.
