NURSING AND FIRST AID

COUNTRY GIRLS VISIT MASTERTON. TO TAKE COURSE OF TRAINING. Country girls who have come to Masterton to take an intensive course of training in home nursing and first aid were, entertained in Masterton yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. C. Gawith welcomed the girls on behalf of the Country Districts Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society and expressed pleasure at such a splendid response to the appeal for country girls to train.

Mrs A. F. Stewart spoke of the arrangements that had been made for the classes and mentioned that physical drill would be part of the curriculum.

Miss Grant, matron of the Masterton Hospital, stressed the value of this training, not only for voluntary aids in hospital, but for members in their own country districts in case of emergency. Miss Grant extended an invitation to the students to visit the hospital. Miss Rt Elliott, on behalf of the president and executive of the centre, thanked the girls for the effort they had made to take the course of training and especially mentioned Tiraumea, the smallest sub-centre, consisting of 27 members, 10 of whom wore present. Mrs Stewart introduced the students to Mrs H. Parsonson, who had volunteered to conduct the classes, and enrolments were made, twenty-five girls registering . Afternoon tea was served and a vote of thanks passed to Miss I. Grant for the use of her room.)
