S.M. COURT

SITTING AT CARTERTON ATTEMPT TO STEAL PETROL. FINES FOR BREACHES OF SPEED LIMIT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday was presided over by Mr H. P. Lawry. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following cases: Carterton Borough Council v R. N. Campbell, claim £l9 16s 7d, with costs £3 3s. W.F.C.A.. Ltd v R. N. Campbell, ejaim £1 19s 6d, costs 10s.

A. C. Hayes proceeded against A. M. Luscombe for possession of a property and claiming the sum of £53 7s. Possession was given with costs £3 Is. The debt claim was adjourned sine die. Two persons, whose names were suppressed by the magistarte, were charged with the theft of a cord of firewood. After hearing the evidence the magistrate dismissed the case.

j E. T. Hurndell and J. L. Upritchard ' who were charged by the police that : on May 16 at Pahiatua they attempted • to steal petrol from motor trucks own- ; ed J by. Messrs Ivan Algie and P. A. . Bisset. Both pleaded guilty and were fined £lO each.

A. E. Hack pleadeed guilty to a charge -that he sold and delivered a ' firearm to B. Coles Middleton without having obtained a permit from the ■ police. Constable Williams said that the case arose but of a recent assault , upon a Masterton motorist.' The Magistrate fined defendant £1 with costs ; 10s.

A charge against N. R. Rayner of having exceeded the speed limit at Carterton was dismissed. Beatrice S. Freer and B. J. Whitburn were charged with having exceeded the speed limit at Greytown and each was fined £3 with 10s costs. In the case of J. F. Abbott v N. S. Cadwallader, a claim for £2BO concerning a. farm deal and milking on shares, the magistrate reserved his decision.

For having failed to carry a consignment note on the prescribed form showing particulars of lambs, etc., as required by the Stock -Amendment Act, 1908, R. A. Pratt ■ was fined 10s with 10s costs.'. This was the first case of its kind brought in the Wairarapa.
