Mr D. J. Gibbs was last night reelected chairman of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. Mr Duncan McGregor has not missed attending the annual meetings of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association! since its inception in 1916. Sir Charles Norwood has been reelected president of the New Zealand Free Ambulance Transport Service (Wellington District). Mrs S. J. Gill and her daughter, Miss Patricia Gill, have returned to Cole Street from a visit to Mr and Mrs F. B. Blundell, of Tataraimaka, Taranaki.
Mr J. Savage, Church Street, Masterton, has received cable advice from his son, Bernie, who is serving with the New Zealand forces overseas, that he is fit and well.
The resignation' of Mr F. Graham, a member of the executive, was received with regret at a meeting of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association last night. The chairman said that eight former members of the executive were serving with the Armed Forces in addition to many girls in all branches of the forces. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital of Mr Alex Thomson, for some years a resident of Otaki, but more recently of Shannon, where he was also well known and highly respected. The deceased, who was 46 years of age, leaves a widow and a family of five. Mrs N. McKinnon of Carterton is a sister.
Mr H. D. Cooper, consequent on his appointment as New Zealand superintendent for Messrs Dalgety and Company, is being succeeded as Napier manager by Mr S. A. Mannering, at present manager for the company at Masterton. Mr A. L. Fetch, manager at Opotiki, will take charge at Masterton, and will be. replaced by Mr C. J. Agar, Waipukurau representative. A letter - from Brigadier General Sir Herbert Hart, of the Imperial War Commission, Heliopolis, Egypt, was received at last night’s annual meeting of the Wairarapa Returned Services’ Association. Sir Herbert asked to be remembered to old comrades and enclosed a cheque for membership of the association for a further two years.
The funeral of the late Mrs C. Gillions took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, there being a representative attendance of mourners. The services at the chapel and that at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. H. G. Goodman. Wreaths were sent by the folk at the Heretaunga Hut, staff of the Army School, Y.M.C.A., Trentham, Masterton Methodist Church, and No. 1 Girls’ Class, Methodist Sunday School, besides others from private sympathisers. The pall-bearers were Messrs C. Burch and A. Daysh, Captain A. S. Berry and Private B. Berry, of Dannevirke.
