QUISLING DEFIED
' BY DEAN OF STAVANGER.
POLICE INTIMIDATED.
In the Protestant programme of the B.B.C’s. German service an account of the following incident in Norway was broadcast a Sunday or two ago. It illustrates the impotence of the Quisling Church authorities in Norway in the face of the united resistance of the Established Norwegian Church: — The Dean of Stavanger, Dr. Kornelius, refused to recognise the authority of the Bishop appointed by Quisling. This i Bishop complained to his “Fuehrer” in [person and the authorities thereupon pronounced Dean Kornelius “dismissed from his post.” The Dean, however, ignored the edict, and on the following Sunday preached in Stavanger Cathedral. The Quisling police attended. But in face of the congregation’s attitude they dared not interfere. So popular is Dean Kornelius that it is thought unlikely that Quisling’s police will take stern measures to carry into effect the order of the Church authorities.
