SHIPYARD STRIKE

DECLARED IN QUEBEC SEVEN THOUSAND WORKERS AFFECTED. GOVERNMENT TO TAKE OVER YARDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) QUEBEC, June 15. Seven thousand shipyard workers voted for a strike, closing three Quebec shipyards. Union officials say the companies were notified last Friday that a vote had been taken, demanding wage adjustments and a “closed shop.” The companies were given 48 hours’ notice but they did not make any offer and maintained silence, thereby giving the men the legal right to strike. The munitions Minister, Mr C. D. Howe, said the Government would take over the shipyards.
