TRUST GRANTS

ALLOCATION FOR PRESENT VEAR SUM OF £llBB DISTRIBUTED. BESIDES UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE ASSISTANCE. Estimates for the financial year ending March 31, 1944, were adopted at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. The finance committee recommendation that £950 be allocated in grants and £238 17s be held to meet special claims during the year, was accepted, making a total of £llBB 17s for distribution. Last year £904 18s lOd was expended by way of cash grants to schools and other institutions. In addition to the £933 15s granted to schools and institutions at last night’s meeting, University entrance grants and a special grant, a total of £235, were made, as against £175 expended last year. The following grants were made, last year’s figures being given in parentheses: —Masterton Central School. £75 12s 6d (£73 15s); Central School Retardate Class, £lO (£10); Masterton West School, £43 2s 6d (£43 15s); Lansdowne School. £32 (£32 10s); Lansdowne School Hospital Class, £2O (£15); St. Patrick’s School, £l9 10s (£22 10s); Whatman School, £l2 10s (£l2 7s 6d); Solway School, £7 10s (£7 10s); Fernridge School, £7 10s (£7 10s); Free School Books Primary, £250 (£241 Ils); Free School Books, Secondary, £25 (£25); Wairarapa College Library, £75 (£75); Wairarapa College Librarian, £26 (£26); Primary Schools’ Library, £5O (£50); Primary Schools’ Physical Education, £lO (£10); Schools’ Museum, £2O (£7 10s); Masterton Crippled Children Society, £35 (£35); Masterton Plunket Society, £35 (£35); Masterton Y.M.C.A., £lOO (£100*); Masterton St. John Ambulance, £25 (£25); Methodist Children's Home, £lO (£10); Sedgley Children’s Home, £lO (£10); Whatman Children’s Home; £lO (£10); Boy Scouts’ Troop, £lO (£10); Girl Guides’ Association, £lO (£10); total, £933 15s. The school grants are made on a capitation basis.
