NOT REPRESENTED

ON REHABILITATION COMMITTEE MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL DISCUSSION. METHOD OF NOMINATING PERSONNEL. Following representations made by the Mastertori County Council regarding the nomination of the personnel of the Masterton Rehabilitation Committee, the secretary of the Rehabilitation Board has advised the council that it requested the local member of Parliament to obtain nominations from the organisations to be represented on the committee, and it was presumed the council was consulted. If it was not consulted it was regretted by the board. The board also wrote in connection with the representation of farming interests on the Masterton Rehabilitation Committee, stating that it was the board’s intention to establish sub-com-mittees to deal with the settlement of returned men on .the land and the farming community would be represented on the sub-committee. At today's meeting of the council, _ Councillor J. W. Colquhoun said it' seemed funny that the local member, Mr J. Robertson, had the setting up of the local committee yet he did not get in touch with local bodies. “We were never consulted,” observed the chairman, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee. “It seems that in a farming district there are no farmers on the board,” said Councillor Colquhoun. Mr Lee: "It is strange all right, and it is too late for the board to express its regrets.” Councillor H. H. Mawley said the local committee was of no use regarding land matters. Mr Lee: “They would be absolutely useless.” Councillor Colquhoun said the matter was an important one. A lot of land would be wanted and someone would be wanted to give advice. Mr Lee said it looked as if the Government would use its own departments. Mr Lee added he thought it would have been in Mr Robertson s own interests to consult the county. It was decided to send a remit to the Counties’ Conference on the lines of the council’s letter to the board.
