STATE THEATRE
“THE SHANGHAI GESTURE” “The Shanghai Gesture,” which will be shown tonight, has a remarkable stellar cast headed by Gene Tierney, Walter Huston, Victor Mature, Ona Munson, Phillis Brooks, Albert Basserman, Marie Ouspenskaya, Eric Blore, and a supporting cast of 60 others. There is little to differenti- 1 ate the movie script from the original play, which at the time it was produced on Broadway, ran up a sensational record. The only radical digression from the play concerns a pivotal part written into the script for the super-handsome Mature. In the film version he becomes a romantic Arab mystic. “The Shanghai Gesture” is one of the most thrilling and most unforgettable motion pictures to come out of Hollywood. There is a strong supporting programme covering a number of timely subjects.
