Kuripuni Methodist Guild. At the monthly meeting of the Kuripuni Methodist Ladies’ Guild cookingcompetitions were held, Mesdames Munn and McKenzie being the judges. Scones, Mrs Allan 1, Mrs Speight 2, Mrs Thornton 3. During the afternoon sewing was done for the Red Cross Society. The hostesses were Mrs Blaine and Miss Burton. Price of Textile Goods.

References to the high prices of certain textile goods such as sheetings, pyjamas, and many other items in popular demand was made at the week-end by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan. “The suggestion has been made in some quarters,” said Mr Sullivan, “that the high prices for 1 these textiles in the last year or two were partly caused by New Zealand manufacturers and traders being allowed to secure higher rates of profits than formerly. “I would like to emphasise that the policy of the Price Tribunal is unchanged in the matter of profit margins, and all increases in selling prices which have been approved cover only actual increase in costs. Wholesalers and retailers still receive only the same amount of profit per yard of material or per garment as they did when costs were very much lower ‘than they are at present. It is a fundamental part of the Government’s policy of price control and stabilisation to disallow any increases in the profit margins allowed to manufacturers and traders, even though the cost of the materials sold may have increased considerably.”
