DAY OFFENSIVE
AMERICANS RAID GERMAN NAVAL PORTS MANY ENEMY FIGHTERS DESTROYED. AGAINST LOSS 01' EIGHT BOMBERS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 12. The Air Ministry states: "Venturas and Bostons this evening attacked the airfield at Caen and targets near Rouen. Late this evening Typhoons bombed the airfield at Abbeville. Squadrons of fighters escorted the bombers and also made sweeps over a wide area of northern France. Two enemy fighters were destroyed and one of our bombers is missing. A.R.A.F. fighter is missing from a patrol this morning.” The three weeks’ lull in the daylight offensive was broken yesterday afternoon when a great force of more than 200 United States heavy bombers attacked Wilhelmshaven and Cuxhaven. The force that went to Wilhelmshaven had no fighter escort, and encountered strong German opposition. Many German fighters were destroyed. At both places bombs were seen to fall in the target area .Eight of the American bombers are missing. Aircraft from Britain attacked widespread targets across the Channel in daylight yesterday. Fighters shot down three of the enemy and came back without loss.
BOMBS ON LONDON SOME HOUSES DAMAGED. AND A FEW PEOPLE INJURED LONDON, June 13. High explosives are reported to have been dropped on London. Some houses were damaged and a few persons were injured. Incendiaries were dropped on a south-west town.
