SURFACEMAN’S DEATH
INQUEST OPENED & ADJOURNED. POST-MORTEM EXAMINATION ORDERED. An inquest into the circumstances concerning the death of James Phillips, aged 52 years, an employee of the Masterton County Council, of Stronvar, was opened before the District Coroner, Mr L. J. Taylor, in Masterton yesterday. ' . After’ evidence of identification had been given by the County Clerk, Mr J. C. D. Mackley, the inquest was adjourned sine die. Mr Taylor ordered a post-mortem examination to be held so as to ascertain the actual cause of death. , The late Mr Phillips, whose death occurred on Saturday, had been a patient in the Masterton Hospital since the beginning of February. In January last, he had the misfortune to fal.. from his gig and about two weeks later he was admitted to the Masterton Hospital. He was a surfaceman by occupation and saw service in the last war. He had been working at Puketiritin, Stronvar, for some time and was a member of the Home Quard. The funeral took place this ufteinoon.
