STATE THEATRE
“THE SHANGHAI GESTURE” “The Shanghai Gesture,”' which will be shown tonight, has a remarkable stellar cast headed by Gene Tierney, Walter Huston, Victor Mature, Ona Munson, Phillis Brooks, Albert Basserman, Marie Ouspenskaya, Eric Blore, and a supporting cast of 60 others. There is little to differentiate the movie script from the original play, which at the time it was produced on Broadway, ran up a sensational record. The only radical digression from the play concerns a pivotal part written into the script for the super-handsome Mature. In the film version he becomes a romantic Arab mystic. "The Shanghai Gesture” is one of the most thrilling and most unforgettable motion pictures to come out of Hollywood. There is a strong supporting programme covering a number of timely subjects.
At the Sunday night screening there will be showm one of the greatest pictures ever brought to the screen, “Hollywood Cavalcade,” in which there is provided entertainment of a very high order which must appeal to servicemen and their friends.
