FARMERS’ UNION

WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING AT CARTERTON. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs L. R. Maitland presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held at Carterton. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Hon. J. G. Coates. An appeal for books for the armed forces and for waste rubber was made to members. It was announced that there would be no Dominion Conference this year, but that a provincial representative meeting.would take place. A deputation from the Young Farmers’ Club waited upon the meeting to arrange for a debate for .the Renall Rose Bowl, and were accorded a sympathetic hearing. The competition for a bed jacket was won by Mrs L. A. Ray. Other competitions resulted: —Best bloom, Mrs Couper 1; shrubs, Mrs Couper 1 and 2. . A very enjoyable entertainment programme was provided by members of the Drama Circle. Mrs Tom McKenzie was warmly thanked for the gift of a birthday cake. Visitors, including Mrs K. Groves, of Masterton, and members of all sister organisations, were present, and were welcomed by the president.
