WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT NIREAHA. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The June meeting of the Nireaha Women’s Institute was well attended. Mrs Terry welcomed those present. The motto for the month was: “I pray God will give me work till my life is done, and life till my work is done.” Letters of appreciation were received from next-of-kin of prisoners of war for donations received. Garments knitted by members for the forces during the month were handed in. These were three pullovers (with sleeves) and two pairs Qf socks for prisoners of war, and six pairs of mittens and six scarves. It was decided that Mrs Terry represent the Institute at Gisborne next month. The soldiers’ parcel funds benefited by £1 14s Id as the result of a sale by auction of produce. The months’ competitions resulted:— Cream puffs, Mrs Terry 1, Mrs J. Drysdale 2, Mesdames Hansen, Hawkins and J. Drysdale 3; plum jam, Mrs Hawkins 1. Mesdames J. and W. W. Drysdale 2, Mrs Adams 3; vegetables, Mrs Hansen 1, Miss W. Houston 2, Mrs Terry 3; small bloom, Mrs W. Drysdale 1, Mrs J. Drysdale 2, Miss Golder 3; large bloom, Mrs A. Houston 1, Mrs J. Drysdale 2, Mrs W. Houston 3. It was decided that the competitions for July be: Best bloom, vegetable, Gatina biscuits, and article suitable for sale at the conference. The hostesses were Mesdames Adams and C. Goss.
