NAZI PROPAGANDA

STRANGLERS OF EUROPE PROCLAIM THEMSELVES HER SAVIOUR. VAIN ATTEMPTS TO DIVIDE ALLIES. The following article, broadcast some time ago by the Moscow radio, was reprinted in “Soviet War News”; — German propaganda is now concentrating on depicting the U.S.S.R. as “the principal enemy.” It is trying to bring Britain and the United States into opposition to the U.S.S.R. by hysterical shouting about the “Soviet danger to Europe.” The stranglers of Europe proclaim themselves her saviours. One minute they talk about saving Europe from the British. The next minute the Americans are the main menace. Now it is the U.S.S.R.

Only recently the Hitlerites were shouting about the need to destroy Great Britain, the “principal danger” to Europe, or “Enemy No. 1,” as Goebbels put it. In his speech in the Reichstag on April 26, 1942, Hitler openly announced that his aim was the destruction of-Great Britain.

Insulting the British people and their leaders in the most scurrilous terms, Hitlei- stated: “The war can and must end in the collapse of the British Empire.” He added: “If the British do not understand this, it is because the Gods make blind those whom they wish to destroy.” Developing this theme, Goebbels and all his creatures reiterated that in the so-called “New Order” there could be no place for such states as Great Britain and the U.S.A. An article by Goebbels, entitled “For the Sake of Future Generations,” published in “Das Reich” on December 11, 1942, stated: “The unbreakable will of the German people is to put an end to the British system once and for all.”

During the period of their fleeting military successes on the Soviet-Ger-man front, Hitler’s propagandists did not trouble to conceal that, after a victory in the east, Germany would use the entire force of her war machine to crush Britain and the U.S.A.

On July 19, 1942, -the “Voelkischer Beobachter” published an article entitled “Britain Remains the Enemy,” stating: “Our eyes are turned again to the east. Always, however, we realise that Britain remains the real enemy.” Counting on an early victory, the Hitlerites propagated their plans for a “new Europe,” invariably pointing out that these plans necessitated the destruction of Britain and America.

In December, 1942, Goebbels published in “Das Reich” an article entitled “Outlines of the New Europe,” in which he stated: “As a result of the war Britain has been ousted from the Continent, but that is not enough. Britain, let alone America, has never been able to think in European fashion.” He added that the existence of Britain was, in general, incompatible with the existence of the “new Europe.” German propaganda made many similar attacks on the British and American peoples, and spoke of the necessity to liquidate them as “degenerate nations.” In an article entitled “The Gate to Europe is Closed,” published last July, Goebbels called the British “a people brought up on defeat,” and piled every insult on them, calling them “dull,” “degenerate,” and so on.

It is clear that the Hitlerites merely juggle with the slogan, “Who is the principal enemy?” Their present attempt to play up the “Soviet danger” is quite futile. The military alliance of Great Britain, the U.S.S.R. and the U.S.A, is gaining in strength. The whole civilised world endorses Stalin’s words in his telegram to President. Roosevelt:— .

“I express my confidence that the joint military operations of the armed forces of the U.S.A., Great Britain and the Soviet Union will shortly result in victory over our common enemy.”
